Over 55.5 (-110)
Friday night football in Texas, college football edition! It does look like there is some rainy weather in big D but it doesn't look like things should linger on too long after kickoff. SMU has played fast through their first 2 games of the season (74 plays/game avg through 2 games). Last week both teams in this matchup both had 77 plays. Now that may have been against some lowly competition but I think this one has the makings of a shootout.
The Mustangs put up 36.5 pts/game (ranked 10th) last season and it doesn't look like they are slowing down this year after putting up 29 vs Nevada in Week 0 and a whopping 59 last weekend against Houston Baptist. In that span they average 501 yds/game, which should do just fine against a soft BYU defense:
BYU 23' Def
OPP Pts/Game - 31.1 (ranked 102nd)
OPP Yds/game - 424.3 (ranked 109th)
OPP 3rd Down Conversion % - 44.59% (ranked 114th)
Takeaways
Lack of forced TO's would also help the over:
SMU Takeaways last season (1.3/game, ranked 81st) to BYU Giveaways (1.6, ranked 93rd)
SMU Giveaways (1/game, ranked 17th) to BYU Takeaways (1.6 game, ranked 39th)
While the Cougar's offense struggled against fellow Big12 teams last season, they averaged 31 pts/game vs non conference foes in Sept. I think as long as weather holds off we should get close to 60 if not more.
Go Touchdowns!
