Wisconsin - 24 (-105)
It is looking like a beautiful night for some football at Camp Randall Stadium. While I am not crazy about laying 24 pts in Week 1 this should be a good spot for the Wisconsin D & new QB Tyler Van Dyke. The former ACC Rookie of the Year will get a fresh start in the Big10 after transferring from Miami and winning Badgers starting QB job in the offseason.
The WI offense should pack a bit more of a punch this season but this play comes more from their defense and Western Michigan's lack thereof:
Western Michigan 23' Offense:
Pts/game - 22.6 (ranked 92nd in FBS)
Yds/play - 4.8 (ranked 101st in FBS)
3rd Down Conversion % - 33.33% (ranked 109th in FBS)
Redzone Scoring % - 78.79% (ranked 98th in FBS)
Wisconsin 23' Defense:
OPP Pts/game - 20.2 (ranked 19th in FBS)
OPP Yds/play - 5.0 (ranked 26th in FBS)
OPP 3rd Down Conversion % - 39.57% (ranked 71st in FBS)
OPP Redzone Scoring % - 81.25% (ranked 47th in FBS)
The Badgers are no offensive juggernaut but they just might look like one against this Broncos defense:
Western Michigan 23' Defense:
OPP Pts/game - 33.1 (ranked 112th in FBS)
OPP Yds/game - 403.5 (ranked 86th in FBS)
OPP 3rd Down Conversion % - 45.58% (ranked 117th in FBS)while Wisconsin converted on 44.22% of 3rd Downs (ranked 22nd in FBS)
OPP Redzone Scoring % - 86.54% (ranked 92nd in FBS)
To top it off - the Broncos were one of the least disciplined FBS teams in the country with 7.5 penalties/game (ranked 125th) & 65.2 penalty yds/game (ranked 126th). In the 4 games played in Sept last year W Michigan lost by an average of 27 pts & an average of 36 pts in the first 2 weeks.
Take the points, give me Wisconsin.
Go Badgers!
